4 Hands-On Careers For Active Professionals

One of the significant differentiating factors between types of jobs is whether they are hands-on or hands-off. Depending on your personality and the context of your professional goals, you need to be in the camp where you are most comfortable. If you’re a hands-on person, and you end up in a hands-off career, you can end up miserable and fidgety. And if you’re a hands-off person and have to do hands-on work, the quality of your work can suffer terribly.

So for people who enjoy hands-on work, what are some options and examples of good jobs? You could get into welding. Perhaps a career in carpentry is what you might find enjoyable and rewarding. Plumbers are very active with hands-on tasks. And if you like the outside, you can always choose to do landscaping.

Welding

On the higher end of the pay scale, if you learn welding technology, you can be set for life with a job that is hands-on, active, creative, and has a wide range of available opportunities all around the world. Industrial companies need welders. Shipping companies need welders. Car companies need welders. There are a ton of options when it comes to utilizing the skill set that you train for, and many people find it very fulfilling.

Carpentry

If you’re more interested in crafting things with wood, perhaps getting a job in carpentry would suit your needs. There is rough carpentry, and there is fine carpentry to choose from as well respecting the broad categories of work. Rough carpentry would be more like building houses or decks. Fine woodworking would be working with smaller tools and doing detailed work, for instance making ornamental bookcases. Carpenters have a lot of freedom to be creative, but they also must be very technical in the way that they use their tools to complete jobs.

Plumbing

One of the most frustrating things to happen to homeowners is when pipes start leaking, and water starts getting into their home and damaging things. At that point, they have no choice but to call a plumber. And if you find a job as a plumber, you’ll always have work. You’ll collect all of the specialized tools and training you need, and you’ll have a consistent job where you make quite a bit of money helping people out.

Landscaping

For people who love the outdoors, getting a job in landscaping is one of the best hands-on professions there is. You get to work with trees, bushes, flowers, lawn, and all sorts of different general and specific equipment. You get to talk to people about their desires and visions, and then you get to make it happen! Landscaping jobs change based on seasons and locations as well, so you’ll never get bored on that side of things.
