Creating a Captivating “About” Page for Your Blog

Whether you have a vibrant blog that you update religiously several times a week or you just have a LinkedIn profile you want to use for maximum benefit, it’s important that you have a page about yourself that’s really captivating and draws people in. After all, who is going to care about your blog if they don’t know you from a can of paint? The question is, how are you going to create an “about you” page that is really going to stand out and get noticed? This article will give you the run down on that.

Tell a Story

One of the best ways to get people involved in your About section is to tell a simple story about your life. It could be anything from how you sold your first business to how you failed preschool and had to repeat it. A little self-effacing humor can go a long way to humanize you and reveal that you’re a real person.

Be Personal

Always tell about yourself in first person. Never try to sound “corporate” or like you’re trying to impress someone with your accomplishments, your vocabulary or how much you think of yourself. You’ve made your share of mistakes, you’re a person like anybody else, and you won’t impress anyone by sounding arrogant. In fact, you’ll come off way better by being humble than you ever could by trying to act cocky. If you really are, you’ll come off as a boor. If you’re just pretending, you’ll seem insecure. So just be a simple version of yourself.

Be Positive

It’s okay to tell stories about your past and your present, even if the stories are negative. Just make sure you can laugh about it. In a lot of cases, once some time has passed it can actually be pretty funny. You can even add stories about losing your electronics and leasing new ones from Presta. As long as your audience knows you’re not trying to garner sympathy or have a pity party, your stories will add a lot of value to your profile.

Showcase the Benefits to the Reader

As much as everybody loves hearing about you, be sure you mention what you can do for them. Your blog undoubtedly has at least some business undertones about it. So don’t try to hide them. Show the fact that you’re open for new clients. Then explain how your service helps people, and who you intend it for.

Your About page is one of the most important things you can post online. This is what people will often find when they search for you. So make sure you do it the right way.
