Trade Chief to Lead World Bank

After the celebrated resignation of former World Bank head Paul Wolfowitz who will be stepping down by June 30 due to his involvement in creating a compensation package for girlfriend Shaha Riza, US President Bush will be naming Robert Zoellick as his successor. His selection of Zoellick is expected to be approved by the World Bank’s 24 member board soon.

Robert Zoellick

Zoellick is a logical choice, owing to the fact that has garnered the moniker of establishing contacts in most parts of the world as President Bush’ trade chief. Considering the situation that the World Bank is in right now, Zoellick has his work cut out for him.

But basing it on Zoellick’s credentials, he seems to be fit for the job. With his experience in building stronger ties and relations from all parts of the world, his designation is expected to be formalized soon so that the World Bank can get back on the right track.

Improving the Mental Stability of US Troops and Veterans

With nothing but war and combat on their minds, it is only fitting that the US soldiers should be looked after with care especially on the mental aspect of things. It is not surprising to note that most of the soldiers are being attacked mentally as well, seeing nothing but blood and mass destruction in their war plagued countries to which they were assigned.

Barack Obama on US Troops Mental Health

Barack Obama has observed such a breach in the efforts to uphold the overall well-being of these soldiers and has vouched for such aid in an effort to help the US troops to enjoy some mental benefits rather than spending them on ammunition and other necessary things in line with the impending war in Iraq and Baghdad.

“We cannot expect our young men and women to serve in our armed forces, if we are not making sure they get the treatment they deserve,” Barack Obama, Obama: Improve mental health care

War on Terror Hurts the United States

Anywhere we go, the rampant growth of terrorist issues has obviously been a cause for alarm and much has been connected to most of the recent events. The United States, the acclaimed world leader, has been the hardest hit by the standing issue. A lot has to do with the so called belief that the US is invincible, making it in its inhabitants sitting targets by countries craving for power. Of course we all know that among these countries include that of Iran and Iraq.

War on Terrorism

The war on terror has not been restricted towards armies and democratic fronts. It has gone beyond bounds which have gone as far as victimizing local folks who are plainly living their lives and working for survival. Sadly, they have become the unlikely targets, making the country very much vulnerable towards security overall. But hopefully, the US governing bodies can continue their security measures if only to protect the safety of innocent lives who are being caught in the crossfire.

And Bombs Kill Soldiers Anew in Baghdad

7 soldiers including a translator were killed in Baghdad during separate attacks, further adding the death toll count of casualties that have been claimed by the ongoing Iraq war crisis. It seems that whenever anything is associated with Iraq, the returned phrase would either be bombs or killed soldiers. Ironically, most of the soldiers are Americans and this will obviously be another headliner in the news for the American society.

Iraq Baghdad War

Many steps have been taken to try and remedy the situation but unless the United States group starts to fix its act, the death toll will continue to rise. Internal conflicts of the US government have been the obvious cause for delay of resolving the problem, with President Bush among the key figures that are among the stumbling figures regarding the matter.

Unless they get their act together, more lives will be taken. Hopefully it will all be put to a stop. Considering the squabbling and unstable method of resolving the issue, it is still unlikely to happen at the moment.

Searching for the Next World Bank President

Paul Wolfowitz Issue

The Bush Administration is quite busy these days trying to find a suitable replacement for Paul Wolfowitz who stepped down recently following the discovery of having masterminded a financial compensation package with his alleged girlfriend employee, Shaha Riza. After this news broke out, all hell was set loose. The pressure has been mounting for Wolfowitz and he finally gave in last Thursday, resigning amidst the growing controversy. The problem has now escalated with regards to the actual credibility of the World Bank and this can not only be done through the efforts of a new president to head them.

Whoever the choice may be, President Bush has yet to name one. The person tasked to replace Wolfowitz will certainly have to pass through the eye of the needle to ensure that nothing of the same nature would happen again. Hence Bush will have to endorse someone soon to help try to fight down the fire that may get out of hand.

Finally a Compromise on the US Budget Issue!

Probably seeing that the issue is getting nowhere, US Democrats have mapped out plans to revise the current $2.9 trillion dollar spending budget that was mainly comprised of a big spending increase in the area of military and domestic programs, something that has put everything on hold and with no recourse.

Compromised Budget

Budgets are known to be a need, and the need is certainly something that needs to be worked on double time. While most disagreements are a given in the world of politics, it is the country that is suffering from these endless bickering over allocations and budgets.

With the new move of the democratic front, hopefully something concrete would finally come out. There is a need to set the records straight and unless personal interests, if any, are set aside, a whole nation shall continuously suffer from such and this would not be something that maybe a pretty sight.

Two US Wars for the Price of One

Gates on US Troops TenureLove it or leave it, the ongoing crisis with the United States mission to cope up with its involvement in separate but simultaneous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is taking its toll for the sent US troops. It is simply hard to fight off two wars while making sure there are sufficient troops to handle them.

As a sort of standard to be put on all active soldiers, Defense Secretary Robert Gates has declared all troops to serve 15-month tours, a move that was envisioned to help in properly scheduling the dispatch of US troops in the war plagues countries.

It is evident that the US troops are finding it difficult to cope up with two wars but as dedicated they are towards serving their country, these supposedly new moves will help put equal footing as far as duties are concerned for the US in its involvement in the said wars to date.

Cracking Down On Illegal Immigrants in the US

Bush on Illegal Immigration
Finding something else that can stir up some noise, it is now the turn of illegally residing individuals in the area of the United States to feel the heat. President Bush has now promised to make better reforms to distinguish the authentic from the illegally residing individuals in the country today.

While there is no threat that can be seen in the form of the fight for terror, it is better safe than to be sorry. Problem is even the people who are just after greener pastures will have to bear the attention and laws that would be passed out from such.

People have viewed this as a means of trying to win back potential votes for President Bush, something that he has been losing lately due to various run-ins with Congress and questionable leading. While such an issue may sound to be interesting, it still isn’t in the area of what he has already done. But basing everything on what he has already done, it looks like Bush still has a lot of catching up to do from hereon.

Another Justice Official Resigns

Monica GoodlingAs the Justice Department continues to draw fire, the more people are slowly curling their tails and wanting out from being caught in the limelight. The latest withdrawal came from Senior Justice Official Monica Goodling, who passed her resignation as counselor to the attorney general which will take effect on April 7.

Goodling is known for invoking the 5th amendment in her refusal to testify before congress. This in turn had raised a lot of controversy, placing her on the hot seat. Topping it all off was her sudden resignation which as usual, triggered widespread confusion since no reason was given by Goodling and at the same time was caught unaware.

At the moment, no clear reason could be pinpointed to her reason. But if there is one person that will surely suffer from this development, it would be Atty. Gen. Gonzales who is seemingly slowly losing his grip on the said department.

Democrats Pressure Bush to Pull Out Troops

The political bickering continues as the Democrats have given President Bush a deadline to pull out the troops from the war infested country of Iraq. Bush as expected did not think too highly of this move, calling it a delaying tactic to send his requested funding for troops and allowing them to push with their pet spending projects.

Democrats vs. President Bush

It is very obvious that Bush has slowly lost the confidence of his countrymen, taking into account that almost 3,200 troops were killed during the Iraqi War and yet his persistence in sending out troops to make up for the lost headcount. Many fellowmen have viewed this as becoming a personal vendetta for Bush, fronting innocent lives to carry out the mission of overpowering the already decapitated nation.

As it stands, the political circus will continue as debates are being set to tackle the sensitive issue in Iraq. Congress has been supporting Bush on his antics, but the Democrats aim to emphasize more on valuing the sacrifices of US troops rather than focus on power which has been the obvious theme of the whole ordeal from the very start.
