It was October 3, 2006, when Aemilianum Broadcasting Network’s campus radio, broke the odds of silence which momentarily engulfed the city of Sorsogon, courtesy of Milenyo.  It was a momentous day for communication in a city when nothing could be heard but sounds coming from different tounges, which at many times filthy and irresponsible. It was the day when the primitive word of mouth way of communication became the master of information.  Whatever was it, it was a triumph of mind over matter, of one’s ingenuity, this time I am referring to Fr. Paolo Alutto and the batch of wacky but working individuals led by Rosauro Amistoso.  They installed the not impossible but important task of delivering information via DWAM-FM 94.3 mhz, the campus radio turn into an EMERGENCY RADIO.

Eight of them, nine to be exact, to include Fr. Paolo Alutto, this Sauro - led technicians braved the heat on top of ACI’s building fixed, installed what was the Emergency Radio.  Sweatingly on a rotation basis, these students upon instruction from Amistoso did a job they knew will surely be proud of as long as they live.

So, the sound on air began.  It was a sound many thought coming from a different areal location, and turned out to be voices of Manny Daep, et al.  Thus, Aemilianum Broadcasting Network took the gigantic move of delivering news, music and informations to the people of Sorsogon City.  The batteries that never worked before did.  The transistors functioned either through batteries or generator.  People as per text messages rejoiced, thanking Aemilianum for facing a tough odd, for lurking through dark moments of uncertainties.  Yet, it was a deed done, to the benefit of everybody.

One or two weeks, it was only one voice, until suddenly power is slowly restored, the communicators were back one by one.  But history unveiled again the Emergency Radio leading the pack.  Milenyo’s aftermath, its wrath chronicled and talked at DWAM-FM. Leading voices of Governor Lee, Cong. Escudero, Cong. Solis were heard over the Emergency Radio,  their  seething voices of power, of consolation, of comfort, and the people listened and understood.  Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo condoled, the city Mayor cried, Soreco is restored, yet the emergency radio DWAM-FM remained steadily at work.  Even when the giant radio networks resumed operation the lowly DWAM-FM, the campus radio, the Emergency Radio, continued at one time stood tall and delivered giant tasks.

            ONE VOICE, ONE RADIO …. what else?

           Nothing else but the EMERGENCY RADIO, DWAM-FM, 94.3 mhz.

The World Wrestling Entertainment has expanded its market base by extending its coverage market towards the Asian region, a good area where most of its followers are situated today. Invading such countries as Japan, China and the Philippines, the response to such expansion efforts has become and evident success, owing to the fact that most of the wrestling entertainers such as Dave “The Animal� Batista and Funaki trace their roots in the Philippines and Japan too. This also becomes an opportunity for them to further bolster their level of popularity in the countries, becoming ambassadors in their own right.

At first, the cost of being able to watch such events drew negative feedback. Like who would be able to afford a $500 ticket considering that a large chunk of the fans following the WWE are kids. But seeing that such brand names of WWE as RAW and SMACKDOWN have been already into these areas, the reception and the fan turnout during the actual events show that people can really make things happen if they want to.

By this time, it is quite evident that the entertainment that WWE brings is purely scripted and that wrestling is fake. Question is, do people really care? Fact of the matter is, the storyline and gimmicks the Vincent McMahon has conceptualized has all the more helped grow the business, something that initially was never given a chance and was dying for some time in the 80’s. Wrestling personalities such as the Undertaker, John Cena, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, the Boogeyman, the Legend Killer and so on have made their mark into the minds of its fans. Personality, glamour and projection was all it took for these people to be among the ideal figures that kids, both the young at heart and the actual ones, look up to today.

It’s that time of the year when witches and warlocks take center stage in the imagination of most people. Costumes and getups, practically everyone takes part in this holiday that also signals the nearing of the holiday season which most people look forward to. Halloween balls and parties are sure to be celebrated everywhere, usually holding best costume contests to entice people to participate in showcasing a unique costume that fits their personality.

The selection of the proper Halloween costume is one for the books. Ideally, people would have a hard time deciding on what costume to wear, having difficulties in finding out what unique portrayal of Halloween related characters that include ghosts, witches, warlocks, and other fictional mindset characters are implanted in the minds of most people. The idea is to get the attention of people who see them, but not necessarily meaning that they don outrageous outfits to get the attention of their audience.

For the kids, it is the time for Trick or Treat season, where they dress up and go door to door for candy and goods. Small tykes consider the Halloween season as a prelude to the season of giving that of which is Christmas. The younger generation are sure to get a grand time considering that people celebrate the spirit of Halloween usually concentrated towards supernatural events and characters.

The selection of an outfit would usually portray their beliefs and how people would want to be seen in the eyes of others for such an event. While people will let their wildest imaginations take over their natural thinking, the battle for uniqueness and creativeness paired with the overall personality of most people is something that is sure to be expected.

Taking my cue from the series of events that have been transpiring one after another for some time now, it is quite obvious that dominant nations like the United States and Russia are still at it in terms of projecting their world dominance in terms of economy and strategic process. Nuclear weapons, war, technology advancements, and economic systems are among the leading reasons that have made them where they are today. However, other countries that include Great Britain, China and Japan have taken their cue and are becoming among the world powers today in their own field of specialization such as electronics and consumer goods.

The United States has had this coming. This started out with the Gulf War in the 90’s which was followed by the famous World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001 where a number of people have died. While the U.S. condemns this and have resorted to going to war to vindicate the entirety of the occurrence, nothing has been resolved to this day. The so-called culprit, Saddam Hussein has been apprehended, but still, like a virus that spreads like wildfire if not contained, terrorism has plagued the entire world. Curing such has become a dilemma, and while most people deem it fit to plainly get away from the cross-fire, the world leaders have not found any recourse for curing the situation. The end result is obviously total chaos, something that has become evident and has even affected the economical flow of most countries dreaming of living in a well-oiled economy today.

The latest among power hungry members is that of the now famous North Korea Nuclear Testing some months back. For the normal thinking person, this would ordinarily sound senseless, but considering the fact that the world is becoming a sitting duck and target as to who will become the most dominant country and force today, nuclear weapons are a cause for alarm. The real victims are the civilians who are caught in the cross-fire, unknowing that they will be the victims from such an ordeal.

An employee’s salary is the single most important basis for being able to motivate an employee to be able to carry out the duties and responsibilities that has been assigned to him for the tenure of his employment. While employees will have their own belief as far as the commensurate compensation package is concerned, companies view it in a different aspect, largely depending on the nature of the workload and its important contribution to the normal operations of an entity.

Comparing pay rates and salaries in a company with other employees who contribute in a different nature is only normal nowadays. What people fail to see is the importance and level of relevance each duty that is assigned in a company. It is not entirely about knowledge but rather more on the weight of the departmental expectations as a whole. For example, Accounting firms are sure to put emphasis on quality financial or accounting graduates to be the bread and butter. While marketing is also needed to be able to drive in prospective clients, the main emphasis of the company needs to be taken care of. For advertising and promotional companies, creativeness and marketing strategies for clients who wish to push their nature of service and product offering. The list goes on and on and each one really depends on the nature of the business.

It is rare to see most employees to be happy with their salaries. Today, add to this the fact the rising cost of living in practically anywhere like the Philippines and other Asian countries have to keep their heads above water. Salaries and pay scales are really important to people. They are actually the key towards motivation of employees along with added benefits that usual companies would provide to their labor force today.

Not all people will be able to control their habits, especially unorthodox manners to which may become irritating to co-employees in the workplace, at times creating a sense of conflict in the personal aspect. The habits that most people follow would depend on their culture and how they were brought up in their respective lineage. While this is only a common occurrence, the productivity once it comes to being able to identify the type of motivating factors that become regular as far as carrying out their duties and their work responsibilities in varying instances will surely become the benchmark for being able to be effective and pro active in a sense.

All professionals have a certain type of behavior and motivating factor that brings out the best in them. There are cases where people are placed in a situation where they are not even happy with their current work. The direction coming from this would depend on the direction to which they want to go, that is, gearing towards the proper profession or undergoing the necessary training and educational implications to fit in to the work they are in and make a career out of it. The ultimate decision is still in the hands of the individual itself. While there may be outside factors that would push a person into being able to pass judgment, these are all normal to entice the decision making process.

A work place will always be composed of different personalities and behaviors, and this is something that should not come as a surprise to most people. While people all have perspective outlooks in life, it is how they see themselves in that situation at a certain projected time that will spell the difference between success and career growth.

Just this afternoon during my regular meeting with the management team of my company, I was reading the newspaper to see what new developments that the country has been achieving, in the business aspect of course. While the usual crisis as far as unemployment and companies merging or declaring bankruptcy one after the another was still in the top of the heap of news, I noticed that the dollar to peso exchange rate was below the Php 50.00 = $1.00 for the first time after a long time. It currently stands at Php 49.88=$1.00, a far cry from the recent years where is rarely went below Php 50.00=$1.00. Then it hit me that it was just exactly about a year ago when the peso was slowly improving, it took almost a year for it to break through the Php50.00 barrier, something that most deem as a good sign as far as the economic development of the Philippines is concerned. A lot of this can be attributed to the fact that the fast growing number of overseas workers, particularly nurses and specialized professions, has been remitting their earnings mostly in the form of dollars or other foreign currencies.

If my presumptions hold true and the trends do not falter, it can still improve, considering that the holiday season has not yet even been started and this is a good sign for the Filipino people, particularly for trading companies such as the one I am handling right now. Merlion International Sales, Inc., thrives in the exchange rate , owing to the fact that most of the goods are manufactured and produced in Taiwan, a country that has a higher cost of labor and production costs compared to the local manufacturing in the Philippines.

On one side, I still wonder if this is really a good sign, or it is just that other countries are now catching up towards the jumpstart practice as far as economic management is concerned. Other currencies that include the Canadian Dollar, Japanese Yen and the British Pound are not being given much attention but they are still stagnant. If there is one thing that most people should consider before celebrating, it is the reaction of other currencies with regards to the Philippine Peso. If there is no significant change, I am sorry to break it to them, but maybe there is something we are not looking at. The dollar has become the focal point for comparison, but it should be noted that other currencies also have something to do with the entire flow of the economy for local and foreign counterparts.
