Psychology and Logistics prior to Business Dealings

“It seems axiomatic that you have to make a friend before you can effectively make him a proposition. (Leo Burnett)

Before a business proposition can leave its feet, prior background checks should be done so that a person can assess what to expect prior to the actual meeting. Such a phrase can be similar to that of a soldier going off to war with the proper arms and ammunition so as not to be pulverized by enemy lines. Logistics and survey of the field is imminent and such can help ease the prospect of failing to close in, and move it a step towards the right direction.

In business, the audience that are present will be composed of various people with varying attitude and behaviors. This is common, especially when presenting a certain product or proposition with the intent of attracting their interest. Playing the psychological mind games will have respective reactions, and the stimulus for such may become positive or negative. It can be expected at some point however that such experiences will be a deciding factor, especially in trying to figure out how to actually handle such confrontations, and the entire personality of the presenting group shall be put towards the test. On whether they would be able to grow and mature from it, will entirely depend on how they grasp the entire situation before them.

Employee Separation and Ethical Practices in the Work Place

Laying off people from work is one of the hardest part and responsibility of being the immediate supervisor in business organizations. Reasons may vary, like poor individual performance or simply the lack of justification for operations to help sustain its finances. Proper protocol is however needed, such as verbal warnings and memorandums prior to actual execution of the decision to part ways.

For the professional people who take pride in their work and are clearly educated in the actual performance of a company, they offer a more rational understanding of why such an occurrence would eventually get to this point. Being in the organization itself, the employees can more or less assess overall performance and of course the usual rumors and gossips that would get around for informal ways of gathering information. While gossip may not be a good sign within an organization, it simply cannot be avoided. Gossip becomes one of the more common expected components in a work place, and a place without it may seem awkward for most organizations.

Usually, this would be concentrated towards the rank and file employees. Having it include the managers and upper managing personnel is not a good sign, and professionalism is definitely absent. While each organization has different ways of management styles, the usual employee would barely last in such a scenario. A gauge that can be used is the success stories of most organizations today. Large companies such as General Electric, Ford, Nokia, Coca Cola, and Microsoft employ professional procedures to ensure that professional work ethics are held to minimize such unwanted practices. While there will still be some present, containing it a level where it will not resort to a full blown issue is something that will help allow most companies focus more on functional operations rather than petty issues, something that most companies would surely want to see in their daily operations.

The Power of Seeing Discounts

The sight of discounts or specially priced goods in a business proposal towards entities will surely solicit a favorable response from them. This becomes the thing that attracts them the most, since in their minds, they are getting good bargains when it comes to getting selling opportunities for their products. In most cases, people have been accustomed to asking for discounts, and seeing this regardless of the net price for the proposal stirs their interest and entices them to study the entire scheme.

For some sectors who really analyze the whole process to the last centavo, being cost efficient is a key factor in making a difference for success and failure of a business. Effective business management also deals with having to consider psychological factors as well as the accounting side of things, especially for cost related figures that will be a telling difference between profit and loss for them. Proposals given will be of course dependent on negotiations and the experience garnered for the whole process. It is not merely about providing special discounts, which for big distributors, is worthless if they would want to hit it big. As an alternative, discounts are tweaked all the more, but in exchange, bulk purchases are encouraged to offset the discounts given, and these practices are often aimed initially at exposure first and external storage of the goods. Besides, price adjustments can be done afterwards, especially once the product has proven its marketability and demand.

Here is a good article on why Consumers say Price Discounts are More Important than Price.

Internet Marketing: Surfing for Profit

For the Internet enthusiasts of today who are looking for ways on how to make full use of the Internet to earn some cash, Internet marketing is slowly being the way to go. While it would be of best interest for people who have business backgrounds to know the entire process of Internet marketing concepts, such as article marketing and affiliate marketing programs, the return on investment should not be expected to come immediately. Just like a company, it will take them some time before actual income can be realized.

Sure we hear from here and there that people earn as much as 6-digit dollar income from the web, but the thing to ask is when did they start and how long did it take them to get that far. For sure, it did not come overnight. Being cached by search engines such as Google and Yahoo is not an automatic process. It depends on the target that people are aiming for. The use of keywords is likewise critical since it will become the telling factor between proper Search Engine Optimization and useless words used to be able to make a site searchable. Also, it is not a matter of using the keywords that most people would search for, it is how to compose these words into an understandable composition to which visitors will get something out of it, a practice that most people do since that is why they are searching for these words in the first place.

Other webmasters resort to link exchanges, however, it depends on how they are able to get quality and relative links to their site. Irrelevant links, usually based on their Google Page Ranking is what most people think would be best for the site, but it is really worthless. Prior to optimization, content and logic is important as well. The result is people who find you site to come back and most probably refer it to other friends or people that may be in need of information.

Balancing Revenue and Expenses for Effective Forecasting

Business operations rely on the balancing act of revenue and expenses to exist in the consumer market today. Revenues are the actual income that a company takes in, mostly coming from the sales from its various goods and services offered to its target market. Expenses, on the other hand, are the figures which show the various costs used to generate revenue. The balancing act ensues where the people assigned to monitor such activities can weigh things out on whether the actual performance and pricings bring back income for the company originating from all efforts for all products served and services rendered.

For costs, this includes the administrative and operative expenses. The people who do the sales, administrative support personnel and utilities used are often the major components for such expenses. Close monitoring for such should be done since realizing costs above the anticipated actual costs will surely affect the expected income of organizations. The allowance for bad debts as well, stemming from receivables that may not be collected due to insolvency or for some monetary related reason are not yet included in costs, hence careful analysis on the actual closing of deals and delivery of goods should be considered as well.

This balancing act is similar to that of a gambling undertaking. Assessments are not 100% full proof. Due emphasis as well should be done on credit standings, financial reliability and their relationship with other existing suppliers should be gathered prior to contract signings or closing deals. While these latter parts may not be found in standard practices and methodologies, bonus information will surely help in the proper assessment of the balanced relationship of revenue and expenses and how organizations can profit rather incur losses which will hurt the overall existence of the business.

Resorting to Organizational Merger and Acquisition

A safe way to help companies stay competitive is through mergers and acquisitions. Each has their own benefit but the most ideal understanding is to trim down the competitors that are in the same category or industry. For sure, money will be a potential factor. Buying out a competitor is no easy undertaking and usually the process takes some time to be able to consummate.

In most cases, mergers and acquisitions help companies combine and take on the remaining competitors, each laying down their current and potential strategies so that they can be consummated and achieved. This not only helps them write off debts and probably losses incurred coming from receivables or mismanagement of funds, but either way, it allows the merging corporations start anew and prepare for a better outlook for the benefit of both parties.

However, downsizing of labor force may be a necessity. For sure, there will be duplicate positions coming from both companies. Standard practice is that the major company will hold the right to choose, but again, there are cases where in potential personnel on the other company will be of use towards the combined outlook. Some look at mergers and acquisitions in a negative way, probably because it looks like one of the companies is loosing money to sustain its operations, but from afar, such strategies are really more on being realistic and sustain efficiency, since trimming down the competitors today will be for the benefit of the more vision conscious teams of tomorrow.

Valuing Internal Data Security and Internet Traffic Control

Having held the position of Information Technology Manager for real estate and hospital management in my last ten years of profession, I couldn’t help notice that providing Internet access to employees during working hours, severely affects their work output and productivity. Perhaps their attention has been more inclined towards the World Wide Web rather than their actual duties and responsibilities.

Moreover, such access to the web has become a security breach in terms of providing safety for confidential and important files that are critical references for reports and performance appraisal and monitoring of the company. Viruses, hackers and other harmful files and programs that can infect these files, not to mention the possibility of accessing and modifying them without notice due to lack of security, will evidently become a work hazard rather than a privilege given to employees and the company.

These incidents have led most companies to resort to ensuring that most corporate intranets and systems to be more security conscious. It is not really a matter of limiting access, but rather providing a screening point to which data flow can be checked and whether they can probably contaminate or cause harm to valued data. Control of Internet access provided to employees can be easily done through human program intervention, thus the real meat of the conflict lies on how effective the Management Information System of a company truly is.
